Guided Tour of Uffizi

The Uffizi Gallery and the chronological development of Italian painting.Founded by the Medici family in 1581, the collection of the Uffizi Gallery has been constantly increased throughout the centuries, this the most important collection of paintings from the 13th to the 19th centuries of Italy.

The first section is dedicated to Gothic Painters, here you can admire the famous Maestàs by Duccio, Cimabue and Giotto. Enjoy then the description of Early Renaissance painters such as Paolo Uccello and Masaccio and take time to observe the Portraits of the Dukes of Urbino, by Piero della Francesca: the profile of Federico da Montefeltro is one of the most impressive portraits of the Renaissance. A few steps from the diptych is the largest hall of the museum, housing the most stunning and breathtaking paintings by Sandro Botticelli: stop for a few minutes to admire the large panel of the Allegory of Spring and the canvas of the Birth of Venus and many other displeyed in these rooms. The visit proceed with the most importannt Renaissnace Art: the Tondo Doni by Michelangelo, Raphael’s portraits and The Annunciation by Leonardo da Vinci described by Vasari as The School of the World for any painter. Cannot miss that! Good reasons to visit the Uffizi Gallery We really highly recommend visiting the Uffizi with a private guide. An art expert makes you discovering the Gallery as a very pleasant journey and brings the paintings and the museum alive! BTW: Do you know that back in Roman times the area where the Uffizi Gallery is located used to be an harbor? And do you know that up until the Uffizi Gallery was built, the area was considered one of the most disreputable neighborhoods in Florence? Make it special: visit the Uffizi by night! The history held within this museum as well as in each painting and statue, makes Florence one of the most beautiful and fascinating city in the world. Touring the Uffizi is surely one of what you can to do in Florence but it can be very crowed; the best time of the day to visit the Gallery is after 4 pm when large groups have left the museum. Take your time, enjoy glancing at the portraits, admire the view over the hills and the river, an unforgettable priviledge of walking through “the Medici offices” with respect for timeless treasures. In some months of the year – from June to September – in dedicated days the Gallery stays open late at night: that represents an occasion to visit the Gallery with less people and the best occasion to enjoy the great view of San Miniato Church and the Bardini Gardens across the Arno river and, last but not least, of Ponte Vecchio Old Bridge by night !
